About

In January 2016 and January 2017  the School of EEECS at QUB hosted events to showcase and raise awareness of Linux and Free/Open-Source Software (FOSS) use in Belfast. Aimed at students, IT professionals and hobbyists the talks showed how FOSS software is used locally in charities, in research and in global businesses. The event raised awareness about demand from employers for skills and careers in free software such as Gnu/Linux.

Talks in 2016 & 2017  included Certification & Careers, High Performance Computing, Puppet, Docker, Open-Data, FOSS in Geosciences, Rust, Security and OpenStack.

Members of the local Belfast Linux User Group are instrumental in the planning, organisation and delivery of the BelFOSS event. The group chat on slack and meet monthly – newcomers (technical or non-technical) are most welcome.

Queen’s University Belfast

The School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science are hosting the event and providing the facilities.
