BlenderBash

2016

In February 2016 we hosted ‘BlenderBash’ – a movie showing based on the open-source Blender software. Blender is an open-source project providing a professional free and open-source 3D computer graphics software product used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications and video games.

The event provided insight into the Blender project and practical demonstrations using the software. The event should be of interest to many disciplines including 3D designers, script authors, translators, musicians, animators, artists, programmers, scientists and hobbyists. The 2016 BlenderBash took place at:

1.50pm on 24th February 2016 at Queens Film Theatre

The BlenderBash event was jointly run by the following QUB schools:

  • School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science
  • School of Creative Arts

After the movie showings there was practical demonstrations by Conor Graham (QUB School of Geography) and Mal Duffin (industry expert).

2017

In 2017 we continued highlighting Blender by organising training sessions for QUB School of EEECS students. Two training sessions were held by Steven Hunter of FabLab and we also hope to organise a VR Hackathon in the coming months. We hope to have inspired students to explore the amazing Blender software and look forward to seeing the fruits of this over the years to come.
